The Greene County Ram softball team went 1-2 at the West Marshall tournament in State Center Saturday, losing to teams from much larger schools than Greene County.
Senior pitcher Marissa Promes pitched the first game against Des Moines Christian. The Rams won 2-1, with the scoring on a two run home run by Jenna Beyers.
In the second game, sophomore Hannah Promes pitched in a 10-0 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule against Class 5A Cedar Rapids Prairie. The younger Promes allowed 10 earned runs on 13 hits. She had missed most of the season due to knee surgery following a basketball injury in December.
Class 4A Newton finished the day for the Rams, handing them a 7-1 loss. Kayla Mobley pitched the first four innings of the five inning contest and took the loss. Six of Newton’s runs were earned. Marissa Promes pitched the last inning.
With the tournament losses, the Rams are now 16-4 overall. Their losses have all been in non-conference play. The Rams are 10-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and lead the league by three games.
